Packers Haven’t Made Much Progress With Davante Adams

March 7, 2022 by The Spun

Green Bay Packers star wide receiver Davante Adams.

The Green Bay Packers have more than Aaron Rodgers to worry about this offseason.

Green Bay’s top wide receiver, Davante Adams, is set to hit free agency. However, the Packers could end up hitting Adams with the franchise tag.

According to ESPN, the Packers haven’t made much progress with the All-Pro wide receiver:

“I do expect the Packers to franchise Adams by Tuesday’s deadline. His agent has had discussions with the team about a new contract, and the tag will cost $20.145 million for a Packers team that’s still way over the projected cap without it. So it’s possible there’s a last-minute extension that could be done to give Green Bay some relief there. But it doesn’t sound as though they’ve made much progress, and I do not believe the Packers will let Adams hit the open market, no matter what Rodgers decides,” ESPN reports.

Packers fans understandably believe that Green Bay is the right place for Adams and Rodgers.

The best situation for both QB Aaron Rodgers and WR Davante Adams is in GB.

GB, arguably the 2nd best team in the NFC with potential to be the best because of those two, but also the players around them.

If they leave, the success in GB will change, but so will it for them.

Adams has also been linked to the Raiders. He’s close with Derek Carr and reportedly purchased a house in the Las Vegas area.

Adams is one of several notable players expected to be hit with the franchise tag, though. It’s difficult to imagine the Packers letting him walk.

We are now two days away from the deadline to apply the franchise tag. Players I expect to be tagged:
Jessie Bates III
Orlando Brown
Davante Adams
Mike Williams
Mike Gesicki
Chris Godwin
Quandre Diggs

It’s going to be an interesting couple of weeks in Green Bay. Rodgers is expected to inform the Packers of his decision by Tuesday.
