The New England Patriots could bolster their wide receiver room this offseason, but it might not be through the draft.
According to Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal, the Patriots have shown interest in Carolina Panthers wide receiver Robby Anderson.
Anderson finished the 2021 season with 53 receptions for 519 yards and five touchdowns. It was a down year for the Temple product considering he had over 1,000 receiving yards in 2020.
If the Patriots manage to add Anderson to their receiving corps this offseason, they may have to move on from Nelson Agholor. Both players have similar skillsets.
From the Boston Sports Journal:
The Patriots seem much more likely to get an impact receiver via trade, and have targeted a familiar player, according to league sources. If the Patriots land this receiver, or if this is representative of the type they would like to add, it would also seem to put the future of Nelson Agholor in doubt.
The Patriots have at least shown some interest in trading for Panthers receiver Robby Anderson, the former Jet who impressed against the Patriots on film despite not much production.
Jakobi Meyers was the Patriots’ leading receiver in 2021 with 866 yards. Right behind him was Kendrick Bourne, who had 800 receiving yards in his first year with the team.
Adding a veteran like Anderson could help take the Patriots’ passing attack to the next level.
Of course, the Patriots could pursue a wide receiver in free agency or the draft. That being said, fans may want to keep an eye out on a potential trade with the Panthers.
