Weather delays have really put a damper on The Players Championship this weekend. On Friday, play was suspended due to severe weather at TPC Sawgrass.
Gary Young, the chief referee of The Players, commented on this unfortunate delay yesterday.
“Unfortunately, the weather conditions are not providing us any relief,” Young said. “Our desire is to not have anyone on the property at that time. We are into a Monday finish. We know that.”
Early Saturday morning, the PGA Tour announced an update on the first round of The Players. It turns out the best-case scenario is that it resumes at noon.
“Due to severe weather this morning, Rd. 1 play at The Players Championship will not resume until 12 p.m. at the earliest,” the PGA Tour announced. “Further updates to follow.”
The practice facilities, however, will open at 10:30 a.m. ET.

As of now, the PGA Tour hopes to finish The Players on Monday. However, we can’t rule out a Tuesday finish because play has been suspended for roughly 24 hours.
Tommy Fleetwood, Tom Hoge and Brice Garnett and are at the top of the leaderboard.
The PGA Tour will provide another update on The Players in the coming hour.
