Weather continues to be a major issue at the 2022 Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Golfers played through heavy rain all morning until play was finally suspended at 11:15 a.m. due to unplayable conditions — leaving the first round of the tournament still unfinished on Friday.
With all these delays, this year’s competition at TPC Sawgrass will certainly not be completed on time. PGA TOUR rules official Gary Young says he hopes the players can finish up all four rounds by 5-6 p.m. on Monday.
That being said, a Tuesday finish is still entirely in the question.

As of the time of today’s suspension, Young said the course had received 2.5 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.
“Unfortunately, we have reached a point now where there’s just no window behind this area that we’re moving into now. There’s some lightning that is headed in this direction. We knew it was just going to be a point where we’re just going to be battling too hard to keep up,” Young said, per Golfweek. “The golf course has reached a point where it’s unplayable, and we will ride this out as long as we can this afternoon. If a window of opportunity presents itself, we’ll get back out there later today.”
The PGA TOUR will announce its next update at 3 p.m. ET.
