The Washington Commanders opened the 2022 preseason with a 23-21 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Saturday.
It was a good day for Washington’s rookie class, particularly quarterback Sam Howell and running back Brian Robinson Jr. The pair combined for all three of Washington’s touchdowns. Robinson looked better than starting running back Antonio Gibson, while Howell’s fourth-quarter heroics almost led the Commanders to a comeback victory.
As for Washington’s veterans, quarterback Carson Wentz was efficient in his debut, completing 10 of 13 passes for 74 yards. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin caught one pass from Wentz for 16 yards, while fellow wideout, Curtis Samuel, played and caught both of his targets on the day.
