Report: Commanders Superstar Likely “No Show” At Minicamp – Patriots, Chiefs Could Take Advantage

June 10, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

With mandatory workouts in the corner, Commanders superstar wide receiver Terry McLaurin could be absent during minicamp this upcoming week. According to Bleacher Report, the source predicts the wideout will hold out for a new contract because the Commanders haven’t found a resolution for a deal. It doesn’t look like McLaurin will be showing up at all and could stray away from any involvement of the team until he gets the contract that he wants, and to no surprise, he has been the staple of this passing offense. Originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Ohio State product has become an integral part of this roster despite trading for Deebo Samuel to salvage this entire receiving unit.

McLaurin has been putting on consistent seasons of successful production regardless of the quarterback situation for the Commanders, so the team will have to act sooner rather than later to give him a new deal. The Commanders want to keep him for the long term, but that will be up to McLaurin on what type of deal he wants, since he’s currently disappointed with the ongoing progress of the negotiation talks and left the voluntary camp suddenly last week. It might not matter to the wide receiver if there is a great thing going on in Washington when he’s been a part of this team when they didn’t have a winning season, so if the Commanders don’t offer a contract now, these two teams could take advantage in the coming weeks.

New Scenery Patriots

Things are coming together smoothly for the New England Patriots and their offense, especially with the support of quarterback Drake Maye. After drafting Will Campbell to salvage their offensive line and signing wide receiver Stefon Diggs, they could use more weapons to put Maye in the best position to win early. Head Coach Mike Vrabel still needs to figure out who is going to be the WR1 for this department, and even though it might look like it’s Diggs, this could change very easily before the 2025 regular season. Even though the Commanders have plenty of wide receivers on their roster, it doesn’t mean they won’t have room for McLaurin.

It’s all about prioritizing and solidifying the entire unit to see who can win during the NFL Training Camp. McLaurin is clearly the winner, along with Diggs and possible WR3 Mack Hollins. However, McLaurin, Kendrick Bourne, Diggs and Hollins as the new four receivers might be what Maye needs. McLaurin helped a young developing quarterback like Daniels and could do the same teaming with Maye this upcoming season.

The Big Three?

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs could use some bolstering in their wide receiver room. Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice should be the long-term starters for this roster, depending on whether they can stay out of trouble. McLaurin is his own perfect WR1 that could take Worthy and Rice to the next level. Despite re-signing Marquise Brown to a one-year deal, McLaurin could be worth the investment since the Chiefs wouldn’t have to worry about signing any more one-year veterans.
