Depending on the outcome of Friday’s grand jury hearing for Deshaun Watson, the Carolina Panthers are “absolutely” interested in making a trade for the 26-year-old Houston Texans quarterback.
If the Panthers are able to swing a deal for Watson, it will no doubt cost them a significant price.
“The Panthers will likely have to give up at least three first-round picks, another pick and a young player or two in exchange for Watson. Those players likely would include either Jeremy Chinn, Brian Burns and/or Derrick Brown, players still on their rookie deals who are still fairly cheap and with a lot of potential,” Carolina insider Jonathan Alexander of the Charlotte Observer reported on Friday.
While the Carolina organization may be interested in teaming up with Watson, it’s not so certain that feeling is mutual. With a no-trade clause on his current contract with the Texans, the three-time Pro Bowler must approve of any proposed trade destinations. Last year, reports indicated that Watson vetoed a possible trade to the Panthers.
Watson is currently facing 22 civil cases and 10 criminal complaints of sexual assault and misconduct. Today’s decision will provide some serious answers regarding his future in the NFL.
