Round 32 Matchup: No. 2 Maryland vs No. 7 Arizona Preview

March 20, 2023 by Maryland Sports Blog

64 down 32 teams to go for the NCAA Tournament. There have been great games and surprisingly unexpected upsets.

Maryland won its 18th consecutive first-round matchup against Holy Cross Friday, defeating them, 91-63.

Round 32 will be back at College Park and the No. 7 Arizona Wildcats after coming off an impressive win against West Virginia look to spoil Maryland advancing to the sweet sixteen.

The Arizona Wildcats lead Adia Barnes has been a model of consistency the last five seasons, with a national championship appearance. This time after a tough loss last season to North Carolina.

The Keys to Victory!

Does Experience Matter?

Arizona was an experienced basketball team in the nation, with a consistent roster for the last five years. Compared to Maryland with nine new players and four returning players from last year.

Will History repeat itself?

Painfully, Maryland is not the strongest team against the PAC-12 conference, In the last 10 years, Maryland advanced to the sweet 16, and the two recent losses were: UCLA and Washington.

The #LeUSgy is peaking at the right time!

Maryland has been on high confidence with the first two rounds last year, and even going into the Arizona game, The Terps have the home-court advantage.

This matchup will provide a unique challenge for the Terps. Here are my keys to Victory!

  1. The first five minutes for the offense will be key!
  2. Diamond Miller vs Cate Reese
  3. Arizona is not the strongest free throw-shooting team.
  4. How will Maryland’s Grit for 40 minutes stay strong against a well-experienced machine?
  5. How will Coach Frese utilize the bench in this matchup?
  6. Press and Zone Defense for Maryland is key!
