Ryan Tannehill Not Present At Start Of Titans Workouts

April 18, 2022 by The Spun

Ryan Tannehill looks on as the Titans warm-up.

The Tennessee Titans began Phase 1 of their offseason activities on Monday. As the AFC South champions begin work on defending last season’s No. 1 seed, they’ve yet to welcome back Ryan Tannehill.

Per ESPN’s Turron Davenport, offseason acquisition Austin Hooper told reporters he hasn’t had an opportunity to work with his new quarterback yet.

“Until he gets here, I’m just going to let him enjoy his time with family while I get in shape, get to know my teammates and the system in place here,” Hooper said.

Apparently Ryan Tannehill isn’t w/ the Titans yet for Phase 1 of offseason activities. Austin Hooper when asked about TE/QB chemistry “Until he gets here, I’m just going to let him enjoy his time w/family while I get in shape, get to know my teammates & the system in place here.”

Tannehill doesn’t have to attend the voluntary workouts, which mostly focus on strength and conditioning training with limited on-field activity. The 33-year-old should know by now how to prepare for his 10th NFL season.

It’s merely questionable optics following his disappointing 2021 season.

Ryan Tannehill not showing up for ANY portion of the voluntary offseason, given the season he just had, is completely unacceptable. https://t.co/52oNUpO4af

Although the Titans went 12-5, Tannehill’s performance took a major downturn from an exceptional 2020. His quarterback rating dropped from 106.5 to 89.6 while his interceptions doubled to 14. That’s not including the three picks he surrendered in Tennessee’s Divisional Round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Tannehill’s top target, A.J. Brown, also skipped the first day of workouts while seeking a new contract.

While the Titans will remain a playoff contender behind star running back Derrick Henry, they’ll need a bounce-back campaign from Tannehill to ascend into legitimate Super Bowl contention. If he sustains last year’s level of play, Tennessee could also struggle to fend off the Indianapolis Colts for its third straight AFC South title.
