Once the regular season came to an end, the Sacramento Kings announced that Alvin Gentry would no longer be the team’s interim coach. As a result, the front office must search for a new coach for the 2022-23 season.
Well, it appears the Kings have a pair of former head coaches on their radar. According to Sam Amick and Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Kings will interview Mike D’Antoni and Mark Jackson for their coaching vacancy.
“The Sacramento Kings will interview Mike D‘Antoni and Mark Jackson for their head coaching job, among over a handful of total candidates, sources tell me and Sam Amick. Kings have done background on vast majority of available coaches and narrowed to small group,” Charania announced on Friday.
D’Antoni has been a head coach in the NBA for over a decade, spending time with the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns.
After the Rockets and D’Antoni parted ways in 2020, he joined the Brooklyn Nets’ staff as an assistant coach. However, he stepped down from that role after one season.
Jackson, meanwhile, has not been a head coach in the NBA since 2014. He owned a 121-109 record during his stint with the Golden State Warriors.

The Kings will reportedly interview other candidates for their coaching vacancy this offseason, albeit D’Antoni and Jackson are strong options for the job.
Considering the Kings haven’t made the playoffs since the 2005-06 season, it’s imperative they make the right hire this offseason.
