Saints Hall of Famer Not Looking for Trade – Chargers, Commanders Could Intervene

Saints Hall of Famer Cameron Jordan is not looking for a trade this upcoming offseason. Jordan made it clear he’s “black and gold forever,” after teasing his retirement following the disaster 2024 campaign with the New Orleans Saints. He wants to play but one should remember that he did mention it will be up to the Saints whether or not they want to retain him since he only has one more season left on his contract. Jordan is one of the several players on the team with an “uncertain” future being that the Saints have to shed a lot of salary cap to make a couple of moves this free agency to improve the roster.

Originally selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the former California product became one of the best defensive pieces in the New Orleans era after spending the entirety of his career with the organization. It’s hard to imagine the Saints will be able to re-sign him to a new deal at least next offseason being that he will be a free agent by that time. New Orleans could safely put him on the trade block to see what kind of offers they could receive from teams. Jordan may be slowing down with age but after recording 34 tackles, seven of them for loss and four sacks, he still has a couple more years in him.

General Manager Mickey Loomis needs to become smart about their financial situation and one move that will shed the salary cap is at least releasing Jordan or trading him. Other notable names they may decide to release are Tyrann Mathieu and DeMario Davis. However, Jordan may find a role on the Chargers, Commanders next season.

Veteran in the Trenches

The Los Angeles Chargers could easily find the fixture in their offense by signing a couple of capable wide receivers for quarterback Justin Herbert. However, the team has several impending free agents next month including Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa and Poona Ford. The hope is that they at least re-sign one of them but Bosa and Mack seem unlikely to return as one will probably want to test the market after speculating he may retire and the Chargers may release the other to save cap space. Last 2024 season, Los Angeles had one of the better pass rushers and the hope is that it is the same this upcoming year.

Meanwhile, they may want to sign a veteran like Cameron Jordan if he becomes available. Hypothetically, they find a way to extend Ford but this means releasing Bosa since he’s been battling injuries for the past several seasons. Jordan is a worthy upgrade for the Chargers and they have plenty of cap space to spend on him to possibly end his career with them.

New Pair for Wagner?

If any roster in the league can bring out the best in a veteran, it’s the Washington Commanders. The organization found its way after restoring faith with new ownership so the chances of free agents wanting to join them are high now. Bobby Wagner was probably one of the best investments this team put together last offseason as he will become a free agent next month. While they hold their breath for his return, the team should look into trading for Jordan.

Perhaps, if they find a way to sign Wagner back on a new deal and pair him with Jordan, it would probably pay off in a promising way.
