The New Orleans Saints are so close to being cap compliant. On Saturday, the team reportedly restructured Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore’s contract for the 2022 season.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Saints are turning Lattimore’s base salary into a signing bonus. This move will create $18.45 million in cap space.
Earlier this week, the Saints converted $10.465 million of Alvin Kamara’s 2022 compensation into a signing bonus. That move created $8.372 million in cap space.
Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football says the Saints are about $5 million over the cap. Considering they were $70 million over the cap a month ago, that’s impressive work from their front office.

The Saints have a bit more work left to do, but they’ll be cap compliant by the start of the new league year.
New Orleans has a plethora of key players hitting the open market this offseason, such as Terron Armstead, Marcus Williams and Jameis Winston.
Since the Saints are entering somewhat of a transition period under Dennis Allen, it’ll be interesting to see how they approach free agency.
