Much is made of the New Orleans Saints cap situation each and every offseason and, somehow, the team finds a way out of “cap hell.”
Well, they’re doing it once again this offseason as well. At one point following the 2021 season, New Orleans sat $50 million above the salary cap.
However, over the past few weeks, the Saints have made a series of moves in an effort to get under the cap heading into the 2022 season. On Friday morning, general manager Mickey Loomis continued to work his magic.
According to a report from ESPN’s Field Yates, the Saints re-worked the contract of running back Alvin Kamara. The move created over $8 million in cap space for the team.
“The Saints have converted $10.465M of RB Alvin Kamara’s 2022 compensation into a signing bonus, creating $8.372M in 2022 cap space,” Yates said. “New Orleans continues to get closer to being under the cap.”

The Saints are masters of manipulating the cap and that show has continued this offseason. Just a few more moves should have the team under the cap heading into the new league year.
