Sean Payton retired from his longtime position as head coach of the New Orleans Saints after the 2021 season.
Immediately after he announced this decision, fans and analysts quickly began to speculate about his next career move. The overwhelming favorite for the retired head coach was a new gig in the sports media industry.
Payton himself has since confirmed that a job in the broadcast field is on the way “soon.”
“I think so, I just don’t want to be the one that puts my foot in my mouth before the company does,” Payton said when asked about an upcoming media job, per Saints insider Katherine Terrell. “But it is. Soon. Probably a studio job.”
Former saints coach Sean Payton said he’s joining the media this year. When asked if a job was materializing he said, “I think so, I just don’t want to be the one that puts my foot in my mouth before the company does. But it is. Soon. Probably a studio job.”

With the massive contracts signed by NFL broadcasters this sports media offseason, it’s no surprise that Payton is looking to get his foot into the business. Taking a job in the studio this coming season would also give the 58 year old flexibility to return to NFL coaching sometime in the future if he so desires.
Payton has been strongly linked to potential jobs with Fox and Amazon.
