Heading into this year’s NBA postseason, NBA analyst Skip Bayless selected the Memphis Grizzlies as his pick to win the Western Conference.
But after Saturday’s Game 1 loss to the No. 7-seed Minnesota Timberwolves, the Fox Sports host seems to be second guessing that pick.
“Memphis, my pick to win the West, is officially in trouble. Griz just were not ready to play – to match explosive TWolves’ play-in-fueled intensity, physicality and edge. Ant Man outplayed Ja, who started hot then missed 9 of next 10. Game 2 will reveal what Griz really made of,” Bayless wrote on Twitter.

The underdog Timberwolves were able to steal a game in Memphis led by an incredible 36-point performance from rising-star Anthony Edwards and a 29-point, 13-rebound performance from Karl Anthony-Towns. Ja Morant started off with a red-hot 19-point first half, but cooled off when his team needed him most in the second half.
Despite keeping it close for much of the second half, the Grizzlies ultimately let the Wolves pull away with a 130-117 final score.
The Grizzlies and Timberwolves are two of the youngest teams in this year’s postseason field. How each of these squads respond in Game 2 should serve as an excellent indication for what direction the series ultimately takes.
