Snap counts from Washington's Week 14 loss

December 14, 2021 by Redskins Wire

The Washington Football Team dropped to 6-7 on the season after Sunday’s disappointing 27-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Washington entered the game shorthanded as five players landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list in the days leading up to the game. The defensive end position was particularly shorthanded with Montez Sweat, James Smith-Williams and Casey Toohill all on the COVID list.

There were other injuries on Sunday, too. Quarterback Taylor Heinicke left the game twice, the second time in the fourth quarter and he did not return. Star wide receiver Terry McLaurin left with a concussion, while left tackle Charles Leno was injured, but later returned.

Now, let’s analyze Washington’s snap counts from Week 14.

Offense

  • Only three offensive players played every snap for Washington: Cornelius Lucas, Brandon Scherff and Ereck Flowers.
  • Leno missed six snaps when he departed with what was labeled a back injury. Saahdiq Charles played those six snaps before Leno returned.
  • Heinicke played 48 snaps, while Kyle Allen played 20.
  • Antonio Gibson participated in 46 snaps. After his fumble in the third quarter, he did not return.
  • Jaret Patterson played 12 snaps, while Jonathan Williams saw 10 snaps. Williams was very effective in his 10 snaps.
  • McLaurin played 49% of the snaps before leaving due to a concussion. Adam Humphries led the receivers with 42 snaps, with DeAndre Carter and Cam Sims right behind him with 40 snaps each.
  • John Bates played 48 snaps, while Ricky Seals-Jones saw 31 snaps.

Defense

  • Landon Collins returned and played 84% of Washington’s defensive snaps.
  • Cole Holcomb continues to be Washington’s iron man, playing every snap yet again.
  • Jamin Davis saw 40 snaps of action.
  • Here’s the defensive end breakdown: Daniel Wise 70 snaps; Shaka Toney 52 snaps; Bunmi Rotimi 44 snaps, William Bradley-King 4 snaps.
  • At defensive tackle, Daron Payne played 67 snaps, Jonathan Allen saw 46 snaps, Matt Ioannidis played 61 snaps and Tim Settle saw 27 snaps of action. Washington relied heavily on its talented defensive tackles due to the shortage at DE.
