The United States men’s national team missed the last World Cup. Could it happen again?
Unfortunately, it appears to be a possibility.
The United States men’s national team is off to a disappointing start in the World Cup qualifying stage. The Americans are coming off draws to El Salvador and Canada. The USMNT headed into Wednesday night’s game against Honduras in desperate need of a win.
There’s still plenty of time remaining, but so far, it’s not looking good.

Naturally, the sports world is freaking out about the United States men’s soccer team’s disappointing start. The World Cup is coming into question.
Staring at two points from three games… which would be an absolute disaster. Better figure this out quick, #USMNT #HONvUSA https://t.co/VN7HyyR7Kw

Weird how everyone on the internet who asks why I waste time on the Falcons just happen to also digitally prostrate with grief over every increasingly bleak USMNT tragedy

The U.S. men’s national team’s coach, Gregg Berhalter, addressed some concerns prior to the match.
“I can see it being, you know, just memories of the past, memories of the last qualifying round coming back,” Berhalter said. “And people say, ‘Oh, we’re in the same situation.’ I can understand that completely. What I’d say is this is a different group, and we’re focused on winning games, and we’re focused on getting points.”
Talk is very cheap, though.
The United States men’s national team needs to figure things out – and quickly.
