As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers plan on keeping Dwayne Haskins for at least one more year. On Friday, they placed an original-round tender on the former first-round pick.
Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus first reported that Pittsburgh is using an original-round tender on Haskins. The Steelers hinted at this move back in February.
Haskins, a restricted free agent, is set to earn $2.54 million for the 2022 season. Any team that wants to sign Haskins would have to give the Steelers a first-round pick in return.
It’s highly unlikely that a team offers a first-round pick for Haskins, especially since he didn’t have much of a chance to showcase his skillset this past fall.

Former Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert discussed Haskins’ future with the team earlier this offseason.
“Dwayne Haskins came in to get some nice things done throughout the season as a scout team quarterback, he played some in the preseason, and we’re excited to see what Dwayne can provide either from a competition (standpoint) or maybe he evolves into a starter,” Colbert said, via NFL.com. “None of us know at this point. I think it’ll be a great training camp for those two and for whichever player we’re able to add to the mix.”
If all goes well for Haskins, he might just have a chance to compete for the starting quarterback job in Pittsburgh this fall.
