For the first five years of his NFL career, superstar wide receiver Stefon Diggs was a Minnesota Viking. And after completing the “Minneapolis Miracle” and signing a five-year, $72 million extension back in 2018, it looked as though that wasn’t expected to change anytime soon.
But, in his final years with Minnesota, Diggs’ relationship with the organization began to deteriorate. As he became more and more frustrated with his role on the team, the former first-round draft pick began to exhibit some questionable behavior: skipping mandatory practices and publicly calling for a trade away from the franchise.
Ultimately, this behavior landed Diggs a trade to the Buffalo Bills prior to the 2020 season.
Now heading into the second year with his new team, the star wideout recognized that some of his actions with the Vikings made him a “bad teammate.”
“Up [until] me wanting to leave and go to another place, I was a good teammate,” Diggs said during a press conference on Thursday. “It wasn’t until I wanted to do something else is when I became a bad teammate. So as far as when things are going good, it’s all good until it’s not good.
Stefon Diggs understands why he caught the reputation as a bad teammate on way out of Minnesota.
He looked at the #Bills as a fresh start.
“When I get there I’ll show them who I am and we’ll go from there.”

While his exit from Minnesota may not have been the smoothest, it certainly seems like Diggs made the right decision for his career.
Through his first season with the Bills in 2020, he logged career highs in receptions (127) and yards (1,535) — leading the NFL in both categories.
“Coming here I had a fresh start,” Diggs said. “It was fair for people to make their assumptions or their assessments from the outside looking in. That’s fair. I just look at it as, when I get there I’ll show them who I am and we’ll go from there. As far as my new chapter with my new team, things are going pretty good.”
