Vibes were high for the Washington Commanders heading into their Week 1 clash with the defending NFC South champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for Washington fans to see that while there are some exciting times surrounding the franchise, the Commanders are far from being a contender.
Tampa Bay defeated Washington 37-20, answering the Commanders every time they got close on Sunday. Washington’s defense, the NFL’s worst by every metric in 2023, didn’t look much better against the Bucs.
The offense had its share of issues, too. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels showed his playmaking ability, rushing for two touchdowns, but failed to get much going in the passing game.
Who shined for the Commanders in Week 1? Who struggled? Here’s the Week 1 version of studs and duds.
