Terps face #1 seed Alabama in the second round of the NCAA Tournament

March 19, 2023 by Maryland Sports Blog

The Maryland Terrapins look to continue their dance tonight as they are setup with a game between the number one overall seeded Alabama Crimson Tide. The Terps are coming off a big 2 point win against West Virginia on Thursday. The Crimson Tide are coming off a blowout fashion win against Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

The Terps showed a lot of heart on Thursday, and had a very gritty performance against the Mountaineers. The Terps trailed for most of the first half before finally finding their rhythm and taking some momentum out of the Mountaineer’s hands. In the second half, it was all Terps early, but quickly the Mountianeers answered with a 16-0 run and took a lead again. The Terps though, showed no sign of slowing down and climbed back into the game before coming away with the victory. A much needed, really gritty performance from the Terps was able to push them across the line and onto the round of 32.

Maryland will face arguably the best team in basketball tonight, just down the road from their respective campus in Birmingham, Alabama. The team will have to focus much of their attention on standout guard Brandon Miller. Miller is likely to be the first overall selection in this year’s NBA Draft. He has averaged over 19 points per game this season and sits at 6 foot 9, while being able to both handle and shoot the ball just as good as any other.

This game will be a real gut tester for the Terps who have a chance to really make a statement and shock the world. Julian Reese continues to step up in big moments, and the Terps will look for him tonight for some inside presence yet again. A promising shooting performance from the Terps will be more than likely needed to get past a team as good as the Crimson Tide. As long as they can get some shooters going, they have a chance to play with anybody.

The Terps will look to shock the world and take the tournament by surprise tonight at 9:40. Go Terps!
