Brown’s franchise tag number for this season will be $16.7M. The Chiefs will now have a few months to sign Brown to a long-term deal.
If Kansas City isn’t able to sign Brown to a long-term deal, he would have to play on the tag for the season.
Brown was acquired in a trade last offseason from the Baltimore Ravens and started 16 games for the Chiefs this season. He was also selected to the Pro Bowl for the third time in his career.
Kansas City gave up four picks to get Brown from Baltimore, one of which was a first-rounder. Brown wanted a chance to play left tackle and he got his wish.
The deadline for Brown and the Chiefs to get a long-term deal done is July 15th.
