The Washington Commanders should be busy during next week’s opening of free agency. New Washington general manager Adam Peters has plenty of holes to fill, but don’t expect him to make splashy moves.
Sure, Washington has around $90 million in cap space, but Peters has a long-term view in mind for Washington. Don’t be surprised if the Commanders sign some veterans to incentive-laden one-year deals, like the one tight end Zach Ertz signed this week.
You could make the argument that the Commanders need help at most positions outside of defensive tackle. Washington has good wide receivers but is expected to lose Curtis Samuel. The Commanders could look to the draft for Samuel’s replacement.
Washington has a definite need for a quarterback, but that will be addressed early in the 2024 NFL draft. Don’t be surprised if the Commanders also target a young tight end early in the draft.
