After a longtime partnership with DirecTV, it looks as if the NFL‘s relationship with the cable service will end after the 2022 season. So what does that mean for the Sunday Ticket package?
More likely than not, Sunday Ticket will become a streaming service come 2023. But, it’s clear which of the streaming giants will try to snag it.
The biggest NFL deal of the offseason could be for Sunday Ticket streaming rights. @eliblumenthal talks to DirecTV’s chief content officer about the prospects as Apple, Amazon and Disney jockey for position too. https://t.co/7wVo4pMOcV

A number of reports suggest a winning bidder could spend up to $7.5 billion to lock in a contract for Sunday Ticket streaming. Which is an astronomical number that’s about three times what DirecTV currently pays the NFL.
However, the future of Sunday Ticket remains cloudy. Per a source with NBC Sports, “it now appears that the [NFL] will sell the whole package to a tech company, which then may break off satellite rights to be sold only to consumers who lack access to the kind of Internet service needed for reliable streaming.”
Sunday Ticket as of 2023 will be primarily if not exclusively a streaming service; the winning bidder possibly will choose to sell satellite rights, but only for consumers who lack access to high-speed Internet. https://t.co/QsgPJluSLt

Adding, “That could be DirecTV, it could be Dish Network, it could be both, and it could be neither.”
Really the only thing that’s clear is that Sunday Ticket will enter the streaming world. And the NFL will make a ton of money off of it. However, how that takes shape is very much up in the air.
