The search begins for Washington's new quarterback

February 15, 2022 by Redskins Wire

Who will be the new Washington quarterback in 2022?

Washington coach Ron Rivera has insisted the Commanders brass is going to be turning over every rock in search of the best way they can to upgrade at the position.

Rivera swung for Rams QB Matthew Stafford last year. Detroit came out of the deal gaining Jerod Goff, first-round choices in 2022 and 2023, and a third-round pick in 2021.

What did the Rams get? Matthew Stafford, the 2021 NFC Championship and Super Bowl LVI championship.

So whom will Rivera, Martin Mayhew and Marty Hurney pursue?

Aaron Rodgers? Well, apparently that relationship has now mended quite a bit. They don’t want to rebuild now, because Jordan Love has not shown he is ready. So, looks like Rodgers will be in Green Bay couple of more seasons.

Russell Wilson? This weekend he said, “My hope and goal is to be back there, and to keep winning there. That’s the vision, that‘s the goal, that’s always been it, it’s never really been anything different.”

Does he mean it? Or does it sound like Kirk Cousins and Brandon Scherff?

Jimmy G? We do know he is as good as gone. The 49ers traded draft choices to select Trey Lance with the third pick in 2021. If Washington did trade for Jimmy G, they should certainly not (in my mind) surrender the 11th overall selection. What has he accomplished to demand that selection?

Kyler Murray? I can’t believe the Cardinals will actually trade Murray. However, someone there told Chris Mortensen that Murray is “self-centered, immature and a finger pointer.” Whatever was said to Murray, he is upset, having removed his Cardinals info and pictures from his bio on Instagram. Murray has also said he feels he is being framed as the scapegoat for their late-season collapse.

Derek Carr? If you were a new NFL coach with the Raiders, why would you and the Raiders part with Carr? They probably won’t this 2022 offseason.

Mitch Trubisky? Commanders fans are now throwing things at their computer screens. But couldn’t they sign Trubisky on the cheap, and still draft a QB to develop for the future?

Kirk Cousins? Oh please, the only way he would even consider returning is if the owner were no longer Daniel Snyder. Hum… But Kevin O’Connell is going to want to stick with Cousins.

The offseason is here and Ron Rivera is beginning his third season…
