The Terps knock off Minnesota, set focus on Indiana.

March 10, 2023 by Maryland Sports Blog

The Maryland Terrapins took care of Minnesota last night in their opening day matchup in the Big Ten tournament. With a final score of 70-54 last night, the Terps took control of the game early and did their best to never look back. Dontae Scott led the way for Maryland with a 20 point performance himself. Jahmir Young followed him up with a 15 point performance on Thursday night.

As a team, the Terps shot 42 percent from the field and 38 percent from three. Both of these numbers are nothing crazy, but got the job done. Turning our focus to tonight, the Terps will need better numbers than that to try and knock off Indiana.

The Hoosiers are coming off a 3 game win streak, and a double bye in the tournament, making this their first tournament game. The Hoosiers continue to be led by Trayce Jackson Davis, as he is averaging just over 20 points a game, as well as 11 rebounds.

The Terps are 1-0 in the season matchup against Indiana this year. That game was played at Xfinity Center, the Terps came out on top 60-55 back in late January. Maryland had 3 starters that night in double digits in points. They were also able to limit Jackson Davis to 18 points. With the help of the electrifying crowd at home, the Terps made it happen.

In order to repeat that success story for the Terps, they will need to try and limit Trayce Jackson Davis as much as possible. Along with limiting him, the Terps will also need to do their best to control the tempo of the game. Controlling the tempo, and playing a fast pace offense has proved to be really successful for the Terps this season, so doing so tonight would be a big boost for the team.

Anything can happen in March, and that story continues to prove true with every conference tournament this far. Seeing the Terps play like they did last night, shows a lot of promise of what could come from this tournament for them. Finding a way to go far in this tournament, could really improve their tournament seeding, and would be very beneficial.

The Terps will look to stay alive tonight at 9pm, Go Terps!
