The Terrapins travel to Iowa in hopes of back to back Big Ten Wins

January 16, 2023 by Maryland Sports Blog

The Maryland Terrapins face off against the Iowa Hawkeyes in a Big Ten Matchup today at 4:30. After an early season skid, the Terps are coming off of a big win versus Ohio State at home. Now they take it to the road today in hopes of stringing a couple of wins together. The Hawkeyes though are no easy task and in order to win on the road in the Big Ten, everyone knows it takes your best.

For the Terrapins, Jahmir Young continues to shine in his first season here. Coming off of a much needed and big time 30 point game against Ohio State, he continues to prove himself as one of the premier guards in the Big Ten. The Terps today though are going to need a good day from behind the arc. Against Ohio State the 3 point shot was a struggle, with the Terps sitting at 38% from behind the arch. As far as field goals in general, the Terps sat just under 50%. Both of these are going to have to be better for them to have a decent shot at a win today.

The Iowa Hawkeyes are starting to find their groove as of late sitting on a three game win streak. These wins include Indiana, Rutgers, and most recently Michigan. Kris Murray has proven to be a difference maker for the Hawkeyes this year coming off a 27 point game against Michigan. For the Terps, keeping him in check is a must. Although he has struggled as of late, Mcraffey can always turn into a difference maker at any point. Shutting down these two is a focus for the Terps today.

In order for the Terps to go on the road and come out victorious today, they are in need of a gutsy road performance, centered around shooting the ball well and winning the paint battle. If the Terps are able to win the battles in the paint with players such as Julius Reese and Dontae Scott, then it opens up their game so much more. By making the paint a focus point, they will be able to get better and more open looks from the outside. This team loves to shoot and in order to get a win today, we are going to need to see a top level shooting performance. The Terps tip off at 4:30 today in hopes of a big road win.
