The White House has reportedly declined to comment on the Lia Thomas situation.
Thomas, a transgender athlete on the Penn women’s swimming team, has been dominant inside of the pool this season. She won three titles at the Ivy League Championships over the weekend, setting records inside of the pool.
The Penn swimmer, who used to compete on the men’s team, has been arguably the top swimmer in the country this year.

President Joe Biden campaigned on passing the Equality Act, which would amend federal anti-discrimination law to include gender identity as a protected category. This would make it illegal to prohibit transgender athletes from competing in their respective sports.
Thomas’ dominance inside of the pool has sparked a larger discussion about transgender athletes.
Earlier this year, more than 300 athletes signed a letter supporting Thomas. Previously, 16 anonymous signed a letter pushing back on Thomas.
Over 300 swimmers signed a letter in support of Lia Thomas competing. 16 anonymously signed one saying she shouldn’t compete. The anti-trans people are small in number & when we give them equal weight in the discussion, we make them seem credible & popular in ways they are not.
