Tigers Searching For Answers Heading Into Bye Week

September 28, 2024 by Maryland Sports Blog

The Towson Tigers are off to a rough start this year. They are now 1-3 coming off a loss on the road at North Dakota State. The team has played well at times, but the consistent play hasn’t been there. Realistically this team should be 2-2 if they make the field goal against Villanova. The loss drops the Tigers to second to dead last in the conference.

Their most recent contest was against the aforementioned North Dakota State Bison in Fargo. Carlos Davis had a tough day throwing the ball as he posted 136 yards and an INT on 24 attempts. He did add a rushing touchdown. Tyrell Greene Jr went for 94 yards on 5 carries and a touchdown. Carlos Davis and Devin Matthews both chipped in to help the Tigers rush for over 200 yards on the day. Former starter Nathan Kent added a rushing touchdown on the day. Carter Runyon led the Tigers in receiving yards with 59.

For the Bison, Cam Miller was close to perfection on the day. Finishing with 219 yards on 17 attempts and a touchdown. ChaMar Brown had a monster day on the ground as he ran for 126 yards and 3 touchdowns. Bryce Lance led all NDSU receivers in receptions, yards and the lone receiving touchdown on the day.

The Tigers were able to get pressure on Cam Miller as they sacked him 4 times, but they were not able to force a turnover. Kam Snell led the Tigers in total tackles with 14. The Bison got an INT from Marcus Sheppard and were led in tackles by Marcus Gulley with 6.

This season is off a rough start with a 1-3 record. With conference play ramping up after the bye there’s no time to relax. This week will be necessary for the Tigers to get guys healthy and rested, study film and game plan for the next game. So where to the Tigers go from here? The Tigers need to be more consistent on offense. The offense tends to struggle at times and it can be difficult for the defense. The defense needs to create more turnovers. The one thing the Tigers have shown so far is their ability to stay in games and be competitive. They will need to continue to show this as CAA play ramps up with a matchup against William & Mary. Join me next week as we preview the matchup.

The Tigers can still have a successful season but they will need to start rattling off wins. Towson is still in the early stages of a new head coach and rebuilding the program. It will take a lot of patience but hopefully the Tigers can elevate themselves and be a consistent winner. That’s all for this week. We will see you next week.
