Towson football is BACK. The Tigers enter 2025 fresh off a 7 win campaign and will look to continue to improve upon that this year. Year 3 of head coach Pete Shinnick will hopefully be their best yet under the new regime.
Sean Brown returns under center to guide the offense. Brown threw for almost 2,000 yards last year (1974) and threw 12 touchdowns, but threw 8 interceptions. The Tigers have a couple of talented back ups in Baltimore native Winston Watkins and Andrew Indorf out of St Thomas Aquinas in Florida. He will have John Dunmore, Jaceon Doss, Lukkas Lodono, Zay Perkins and Sam Reynolds. One guy who could make a big impact is Frostburg State transfer Amari N’Namdi-Hall who had 554 yards receiving last year and 5 touchdowns.
With the loss of Carter Runyon, the Tigers have some options with transfers Peyton Faulkner and Bryce Butler. Butler has the playing experience at Ohio University and could be the guy.
The runningback room looks a lot different without Devin Matthews, Tyrell Greene and Ike Daniels. Matthews finished his career 7th all time in rushing yards and 6th all time in touchdowns. Trey Engram returns and although he did not play he should be in contention for playing time. They also add Al Wooten II from Duke and a couple of Freshmen out of the state of Florida (Kemarrion Battles and Javon Ford II).
The Tigers return a ton of talent on the offensive line. KJ Brooks, Jaelin Montgomery, Dan Volpe and Jean Germain all return to give the Tigers a veteran and battle tested unit. They also have Michael Williams, who is a former 3 star Red-Shirt Freshman who was at the University of Florida this past season.
Up from the Tigers have a lot of talent on the defensive line. Aaron Clark, Jordan Sampson, JT Stegall, Elijah Tarlton, plus the additions of transfers JT Black, Wyatt Drarger, and Cam Matthews. The linebacker room has a lot of veteran presence with Shamar Graham, Myles Turner, Rodney Roane Jr, and Ja’mez Drummer will be relied on to patrol the middle of the defense. The defensive backfield also had a ton of veteran presence with Mike Swain, Xavier Terry, Myles Brodie, Kayden White, Carnell Davis, Nigel Henderson and Bryan Lodge. It will be interesting to see what the Tigers do defensively when they get that first defensive series started.
The Tigers hit the road for their first game of the season. They travel to Norfolk for the coaching debut of…. drumroll please….. MICHAEL VICK. Yes that Michael Vick. The Tigers defense might have some sort of advantage as the Spartan’s offensive coordinator is Brian Sheppard, who was with the Tigers this past year. Terence Garvin, who played his college ball at WVU leads their defense.
Otto Khuns should be under center to start the season. He has started before but redshirted last season. He could potentially get some push from Isreal Carter, a South Florida transfer. The running backs have a lot of talent such as: Kiron Benjamin, Jaylen White, Kevin King and Fonnae Webb. The Spartans have a lot of talent on the outside including: Taron Biles-Walker, Kam’Ryn Thomas and Jake Blake all return from last year. The Spartans lost a lot of talent from last year’s defense, but still have guys like Dylan Long, Khaleef Jimmison, Stephon Hall, Corey Chapman, Khalib Gilmore and Kendrick Nowling. The Spartans will look to get off to a fast start and help coach Vick get his first win of the new campaign.
The Tigers will need a great offensive performance in order to start their season off on the right foot. GO TIGERS!!
