Tom Brady Names His “Greatest Challenge Yet” In NFL

April 4, 2022 by The Spun

Tom Brady and the Buccaneers on the field in Los Angeles.

Rather than walk into the sunset, Tom Brady will return for his 23rd NFL season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback will once again be the league’s oldest player when commencing the 2022 campaign at 45 years old.

In an exclusive interview with People‘s Jason Duaine Hahn, Brady acknowledged the difficult task of physically and mentally preparing for another year. Yet he’s all-in after walking back a short-lived retirement decision.

“They know that once I said yes, there’s no turning back, and I’ve got to commit every bit of mental toughness I have to be in this with them until the end of the season, and I’m excited for it,” Brady said. “It’ll be my greatest challenge yet.”

The seven-time Super Bowl champion said “wanting to achieve the ultimate goal” of winning another title fueled his decision to come back and “motivates me every day.” He has no plans on taking it easier or settling for sub-standard results this season.

“I want to go out there and have my best year yet,” he added. “It requires a lot of time and focus and energy, just like everything, every detail matters. Everything’s important. There are zero compromises to getting the result that we want. And it’s got to be 100 percent effort by everybody to accomplish our goal.”

Few athletes have Brady’s dieting discipline, which has helped fuel his unprecedented longevity at a high level. He called Alex Guerrero, his body coach and TB12 founder, “the best person in my life.” (Sorry, Gisele.)

Brady knows he’s nearing the end of his playing career, but he’s driven to “finish strong and at the highest level.” After tossing 43 passing touchdowns with an NFL-leading 5,316 passing yards last season, it’s hard to doubt his ability to once again return at an MVP-caliber level.
