The Towson Tigers went on the road against North Carolina A&T and took care of business. By far one of the most impressive wins I’ve seen them have. All around domination and weeks full of frustration being take out on the field. The final score an astonishing 62-9 win for the Tigers.
Where to start on this one? How about the offense? Andrew Indorf have yourself a DAY young man. Indorf finished the day with 294 passing yards on 24 attempts with 18 completions. 0 sacks is a huge positive as it has been a struggle for them this year. The Tigers also had Winston Watkins, a Mt. St Joseph alum, threw 1 pass for 38 yards and a touchdown.
On the flip side Kevin White struggled that the Aggie offense was stuck in the mud all day. White finished with 90 yards passing on just 11 completions. He threw 2 INT’s and was sacked 1 time.
The run game had did not have a massive day, just 145 yards rushing. However, 4 different players found the endzone: Kemarrion Battles, Al Wooten, Kasheim and Trey Engram all had 1 touchdown on the day. Battles lead the team in yards with 47. Nelson Layne led the Aggie offense with 66 yards on 12 carries on 5 attempts and scored a touchdown. The Aggies put up similar yard totals with 143 yards.
The Tigers found a majority of their success through the air to the tune of 382 yards. Jaceon Doss led the team with 108 yards on 4 receptions and a touchdown. They also got receiving touchdowns from Al Wooten and Cleveland Charlton. Towson ended the day with 382 yards passing on the day. Jayvonne Dillard led the Aggies with 43 yard receiving and 5 catches. North Carolina A&T finished with 116 yards receiving on the day.
Defensively, Towson had one of its best performances of the season and in recent memory. The had 2 sacks on the day, 4 tackles for loss and a pair on INT’s. Branson Peters led the team in tackles plus adding a TFL and sack in there. Their interceptions were by Myles Brodie and Ben Kumpon, and got sacks from Matthieu Longa and Nicholas Miano. For North Carolina A&T, Joshua Iseah and Trey Mittman led the team with 8 total tackles.
A win at this point in the season is great, but now the question becomes can you build on it. The Tigers now shift their focus back to Charm City, eagerly looking for a win in the friendly compound of Unitas Stadium. The Villanova Wildcats come to town, looking for their 6th straight win after starting off 1-2, losing to Penn State and Monmouth. Villanova currently sits 3rd in the conference and is a top 10 team in the FCS.
Their last meeting ended in a heartbreaker with Towson being a missed field goal away from an upset win on the road. Their quarterback is Pat McQuaide who is a Graduate transfer from Nicholls State. He’s thrown for 1727 yards and 13 touchdowns compared to just 2 INT’s. The Wildcats will definitely be looking to beat the Tigers through the air. He does also have 2 rushing touchdowns on 18 attempts for -28 yards.
Their run game is paced by David Avit, who has 698 yards rushing and 8 touchdowns on the year. They also have Isaiah Ragland and Ja’briel Mace who have both found the endzone on the year. In the pass game, Luke Colella is their big play wide receiver, who has 5 touchdowns on the year. Towson will also need to watch for Lucas Kopecky, Chris Colby, Antonio Johnson and Brandon Binkowski. All of whom has been able to get into the endzone and give the Wildcats a lot of depth on the outside. M
The defense is anchored by Shane Hartzell, who has won or been nominated for every FCS football award there is. He currently leads the team with 50 tackles and has 4.5 sacks on the year. Their secondary has a lot of talent with Christian Sapp, Anthony Hawkins and Zahmir Dawud will all look to ground Towson’s passing attack. Towson will also need to look out for Obinna Nwobodo and Richie Kimble who are both key cogs on the first and second level for the Wildcats.
Towson is in desperate need of a home win on the year and maybe, just maybe this could be it. Towson will need to play a complete game in all 3 phases to have a chance to win. Kickoff from Unitas Stadium is set for 1 pm.
