Towson Set To Clash With William & Mary At Home

October 5, 2024 by Maryland Sports Blog

The Towson Tigers, fresh off their bye week look to get things rolling in the right direction. Their first opponent post bye week is a Top 25 ranked William & Mary squad. The Tribe sit in 4th place in the conference and have been very solid all around. The Tribe started off the season strong with a win over VMI in dominant fashion. Aside from a tough 40-21 loss against Costal Carolina, the Tribe have won 3 straight against Wofford, Furman and a blow out win over Hampton.

This is yet another tough test for this Towson team. The struggles in all 3 phases of the game have sunk the Tigers thus far. Let’s take a look at the Tribe and what had made them so successful this year.

Under center for William and Mary is 4th year starter Darius Wilson. Wilson is off to a good start with almost 1,000 yards passing and 6 passing touchdowns. He is a dual threat QB and has added over 300 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns. Wilson does not turn the ball over very often so getting some turnovers will be crucial for Towson’s defense.

The Tribe have a lot of play makers in the backfield and out wide. Bronson Yoder leads the team in rushing yards, attempts and touchdowns with 5. He is averaging 104 yards on the ground per game. Malachi Imoh and Tyler Hughes rotate in to give the rushing attack more depth. They have 7 combined touchdowns and over 400 yards between the 2 of them.

Hollis Mathis is their big play WR and along with Sean McElwain and DreSean Kendrick combine for 6 touchdowns and 500 total receiving yards. All 3 of these guys can do damage and will look to make it a long day for the Tigers defense.

Shifting to the defense, they have a lot of really good ball players. They have a lot of guys who can make big plays. Alex Washington leads the team in total tackles with 32, an absolute machine. Christian Hamm and Johnathan Hammond have combined for 8.5 TFL and will look to get in the backfield early and often. In the defensive secondary Jalen Jones has 10 pass breakups and is a great cover guy. The defense has mustered 7 total turnovers so far and will look for more.

This will be a tall order for the Tigers. A good offensive and a good defense for the Tribe will look to give them fits all day. The Tigers are in desperation mode for a win so I believe they will come out swinging. A win should hopefully push the Tigers in the right direction. GO TIGERS
