Tigers win!
Towson picked up their second straight win this past Saturday to bring their record to 2-0. Towson has now won 8 in a row vs the Bears. This week wasn’t the total domination that it was against Norfolk but a rivalry win is sweet no matter what.
Andrew Indorf and the offense got some help from the Defense and Special teams. Lukkas Londono had a 96 yard kick off return and Myles Brodie housed a 66 yard pick six. Indorf had a respectable game with 18 completions for 186 yard and a touchdown. Kemarrion Battles paced the rushing attack with 53 yard on 14 attempts and cashed in a touchdown. Jon Dunmore found the endzone and racked up 6 catches for 67 yards. His touchdown with 24 seconds left gave Towson the 27-22 win.
Morgan State made this one a good one near the end. Kobe Mausau, despite the pick six, had a respectable game for the Bears. 214 yards on 17 completions and a touchdown. Jason Collins Jr band a huge day for Morgan State with 134 yard on 28 attempts. Morgan’s lone receiving touchdown belonged to Matt Lowe with 1 catch for 5 yards. Malique Leatherbury led the team with 42 receiving yards.
Towson’s defense was very active during this one. The defense forced 3 fumbles and 2 were recovered by Alfred Thomas and Zakaa Brown. CJ McClendon lead the team with 9 total tackles. The defense got 4 tackles for loss and Rodney Roane picked up a sack. The pick six by Myles Brodie was one of the 3 turnovers the defense forced.
Morgan’s defense didn’t have the same number of big plays, but they still kept them in this one. Jianni Woodson-Brooks led them in total tables with 10 and 3 TFL and a sack. Blanche Gold added a sack and a half as well. Chance Pickard did recover a Towson fumble.
The win over Morgan has the Tigers feeing good heading into their week 3 matchup. The Tigers once more hit the road for a matchup with the Terps down in College Park. Maryland had scored victories over FAU and NIU, with both of them being at home.
Gone is QB Billy Edwards, who bolted for Wisconsin. Enter what Maryland fans believe is their savior at QB in true Freshman Malik Washington. A big kid who can really sling it. He already has over 500 yards passing and 5 touchdowns. He has started slow in both of his games so far which Towson will need try and get him off his rhythm.
One area that Maryland has struggled with so far is being able to run the football. The Terps have 0 rushing touchdowns on the year, but have a lot of talent in the backfield. Nolan Ray, DeJuan Williams, and Iverson Howard are all incredibly talented and will look to get back on track this week.
So far this year Shaleak Knotts and Dorian Fleming have had the bulk of the receiving touchdowns with 2 a piece. They, like the running backs have e lot of talent (Jalil Farooq, Octavion Smith, and Josiah McLaurin.
Defensively, the Terps have been a solid unit. Only 16 points allowed in both games they’ve played. Daniel Wingate is by far one of their most important players defensively. Jalen Huskey is a solid on the outside and will most likely be going up against Towson’s best receivers. They also feature a couple of talented true freshmen in Sidney Stewart and Zahir Mathis. Other Maryland players to watch out for are Messiah Delhomme, Cam Rice, Dontay Joyner, and Braydon Lee.
Kickoff from SECU stadium is slated for 12pm. Towson will look to continue its winning ways and score a big upset over a good Maryland team. Towson will need to play a perfect game in order to walk out of College Park with a massive win.
GOH TIGERS!
