Travis Kelce is the best tight end in the NFL. He could be the best in NFL history when his career is all said and done. Kelce will enter his 11th NFL season in 2023, and at 33 years old, he still looks like he’s in the prime of his career.
The 2023 season will be Kelce’s first without his former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. After 10 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs — the last five as OC — Bieniemy left to take the same role with the Washington Commanders. Bieniemy also got the additional title of assistant head coach.
Bieniemy is known for being loud, organized and demanding. Those traits are welcome in Washington, as numerous Commanders have praised Bieniemy’s approach, including wide receivers Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson.
You can count Kelce as one of those grateful for Bieniemy’s influence in his career.
In an appearance on “Pardon My Take,” Kelce was asked what the Commanders were getting in Bieniemy.
“Oh yeah, baby, you guys are getting a dog,” Kelce said about the Commanders. “A dog. He’s a dog. He’s gonna fire up that team. I think he’s awesome for the core group of guys you’ve got. I’m sure you can ask Logan Thomas a few things since he’s had his little offseason with him so far. But I think what Bieniemy does better than a lot of coaches is he’s very organized. He’s gonna make sure guys know what they’re doing.”

When top players like Kelce and Patrick Mahomes sing Bieniemy’s praises, it should excite Washington fans. Bieniemy has made it clear since he arrived in February that he will demand accountability, something the Commanders have lacked at times over the years.
The Commanders will return an excellent defense in 2023. If Bieniemy and quarterback Sam Howell can give the offense more consistency, Washington should be a playoff team.
