November 16, 2023 by Maryland Sports Blog

U.S.A. teen boys squad looking to make a lot of noise in this year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup and so far, they already have with 2 very convincing wins.

Not too many people know this but the United States in a FIFA World Cup, the U-17 World Cup. The United States is actually in a very favorable position as this 24-team tournament could be one of the middle-of-the-road tournaments in quite some time and could signify the best finish since 1999 when the team finished in 4th.

Indonesia Spain Brazil Japan France Mexico
Ecuador Canada Iran Poland Burkina Faso Germany
Panama Mali New Caledonia Argentina South Korea Venezuela
Morocco Uzbekistan England Senegal United States New Zealand
Qualified teams for the 2023 FIFA Men’s U-17 World Cup

The United States U-17 Men’s national under-17 soccer team has been making a very strong statement in Indonesia as they have picked up 2 wins. It all began with a 3-1 victory over the Republic of South Korea in Jakarta in which up and coming 15-year-old striker Nimfasha Berchimas scored a pair of goals at the 7th and 73rd minutes of the game and Cruz Medina also scored at the 49th minute for the victory.

The United States followed up with a 2-1 victory over Burkina Faso thanks to goals from Keyrol Figueroa at the end of 45 before stoppage time and then another by Berchimas, at 45+6’th minute of play before Jack Diarra of Burkina Faso scored in the 89th minute. It was definitely a tale of two halves as the United States seemed very fatigued with about 16 minutes and stoppage time remaining. They are assured of a knockout stage bid thanks to goal differential.

They will play France on Saturday to attempt to finish top of the group.

If the United States defeats France on Saturday, they would play the runner-up of Group D on November 22nd. However, if the United States loses to France, they’d play the winner of Group F on the 21st of November.
