Urban Meyer’s first NFL game with the Jacksonville Jaguars was a pretty forgettable one as they lost 37-21 to the Houston Texans.
The Jaguars were defensively overwhelmed in the 37-21 loss and trailed by 27 points in the third quarter. After the game, Meyer said that his “biggest disappointment” was the penalties.
The first two plays the Jaguars had on offense were a penalty and a timeout. They quickly lost momentum and struggled to get any back.
“Self-inflicted, seven penalties on the first three or four drives… That was the biggest disappointment,” Meyer said.
The Jaguars fell behind by 14 points in the first quarter and never tied the game afterwards.

Urban Meyer’s rookie quarterback, No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence had some up-and-down moments in the game. He had 332 passing yards and three touchdowns, but completed less than 55-percent of his passes and threw three picks.
There’s clearly a lot of work to be done on both sides of the ball for the Jaguars.
Fortunately for Urban Meyer, he has 16 more games to correct those mistakes. But he clearly believes that stopping the penalties have to be a priority.
The Jaguars are now riding a 16-game losing streak dating back to last season. But ending that streak won’t be an easy task with what they have.
