The USMNT earned a much-needed win over Honduras in their World Cup qualifying match on Wednesday. Unfortunately, they may have lost star striker Christian Pulisic to an injury in the process.
On Friday, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel announced that Pulisic returned to the team on crutches. Tuchel said he is expected to be out of action for around 10 days.
“For Christian, unfortunately he came yesterday on crutches and he has an ankle injury with about 10 days [out],” Tuchel said, via ESPN.
The layoff will make Pulisic unavailable for Chelsea’s Saturday game against Aston Villa. He will also miss their Champions League opener against Zenit St. Petersburg on Tuesday.
Pulisic left Wednesday’s game against Honduras early after limping off with an ankle injury. The USMNT went on to win the game 4-1.

Christian Pulisic had a rough round of World Cup qualifying games with the USMNT. Though in fairness, the entire team struggled through the first two games.
It was ultimately another young starlet, Ricardo Pepi, who led the USMNT to victory over Honduras earlier this week.
But the team still needs Pulisic to play at a high level if they have hopes of qualifying for the World Cup. The next round of World Cup qualifying games is this October with home games against Jamaica and Costa Rica, and a road game against Panama.
Hopefully Pulisic is fully recovered before then.
