The New York Giants are being taken to task by a former player who has filed a formal grievance against them for unpaid wages.
According to Giants insider Dan Duggan of The Athletic, Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Logan Ryan has filed a grievance against the Giants over his release this past March. Ryan is going after the Giants for what $3 million that he asserts he is owed.
Per the report, Ryan had $5.5 million of his 2022 salary fully guaranteed. But $8.5 million was guaranteed for injury.
Duggan reported that Ryan underwent postseason finger surgery. Ryan now asserts that he is entitled to the full $8.5 million because he was released after the surgery.
From what I gather, Ryan had postseason finger surgery. So the dispute is based on if he’s entitled to the full $8.5M because he was released after surgery.
While the sides await a resolution, 40% of the disputed amount counts on the cap. So that’s $1.2M currently unavailable.

Duggan suggested that the Logan Ryan grievance might explain the team’s recent decision to restructure the contract of cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, as 40-percent of the disputed money will apparently count against the team’s cap until the situation is resolved.
Once they decided to restructure Jackson, it made sense to do the maximum amount since they’re going to need more cap space eventually. The restructure created $6M in cap savings.

Logan Ryan played in all but two games in two seasons for the New York Giants. But he struggled to make the same impact in New York as he did with the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots before that.
The Giants released Ryan one year into a three-year, $31 million contract extension that included $20 million guaranteed.
He quickly signed with the Buccaneers for the 2022 season. The Giants do not play the Bucs this coming season.
Will Logan Ryan get the money he’s asking for?
