The Washington Commanders opened minicamp Tuesday minus one of their star players in wide receiver Terry McLaurin. McLaurin skipped OTAs in his quest for a new contract from Washington.
Head coach Ron Rivera appeared confident McLaurin would attend this week’s mandatory minicamp. Still, he chose to stay away as reports indicate he and the team are “far apart” in contract negotiations.
One famous Washington fan has some simple yet sage advice for the Commanders: Pay the man.
Longtime Washington fan, the iconic rapper Wale, took to Twitter Monday with the following message for the franchise:

Wale is a native Washingtonian and a proud Washington football fan. Growing up in D.C., Wale’s childhood was filled with many positive memories of the local NFL franchise that has fallen on hard times. He, like most fans, wants McLaurin to remain with the Commanders.
Washington coach Ron Rivera expressed confidence that a deal would get done between the two sides on Tuesday. But, until that deal is announced and signed, Washington fans will continue to worry one of its brightest stars will follow the lead of Kirk Cousins, Trent Williams and Brandon Scherff.
Far too often, Washington is reactive instead of proactive. If that happens to be the case here, the Commanders could lose a franchise cornerstone and fan favorite.
So, perhaps they should just listen to Wale.
