Washington Commanders at Detroit Lions Week 2 Preview

September 18, 2022 by Maryland Sports Blog

The Commanders look to improve to 2-0 after a come from behind win last week against Jacksonville 28-22. Detroit looks to get it’s first win of the season after losing last week to the Eagles 38-35. Both Defenses struggled last week and I expect them to do the same again this week. I expect this game to be high scoring and come down to whoever has the ball last.

Offense

Washingtons offense looks to continue its effectiveness against the Lions on Sunday. I expect Carson Wentz and the offense to have a big day against this Lions Defense. Detroits defense gave up 455 total yards last week against the Eagles and 31 points. If the Commanders can limit the turnovers they should be able to go up and down the field on Sunday. Also look for a bigger rushing attack from the Commanders this week since the Lions gave up 216 rushing yards last week.

Defense

Washingtons Defense will need to continue its solid red zone defense again this week. It held the jags to 2 for 5 in the red zone last week and was the main reason the commanders won. Jamin Davis needs to have a better game this week after looking lost at times last week and getting called out by DC Jack Del Rio on Friday. If he doesn’t expect D’andre Swift to have a big day on the ground and in the passing game.

Jack Del Rio on Jamin Davis: “I mean, he’s got to play better. He didn’t play very well last week. I know he expects to play better. He’ll be challenged to play better.” https://t.co/MP1HgpDa3H

Keys to the Game

  • Don’t turn the ball over
  • Don’t get beat deep on defense
  • Have better Linebacker play from Cole Holcomb and Jamin Davis
  • Get constant pressure on Jared Goff throughout the game

Prediction

Offense will be on display Sunday for the Lions and Commanders. Look for Swift to have a big game being matched up against Davis on Sunday. For the Commanders they will spread the ball around to everyone on the offense again. The most impact player will be Gibson for the Commanders by running the ball to take time off the clock and giving the defense some rest. This game will come down to whoever can stop the other team last or scores with no time left. I believe the Commanders will get a late stop and get a victory on Sunday over the Lions 31-28. For betting purposes I would take the over 48.5 and the Commanders +1.

Betting lines from BETUS
