OL help!
The Washington Commanders still have 21 spots to fill on their roster, and they added another offensive lineman today. Former Eagles, Jets, and Steelers guard Nate Herbig has signed a 1-year deal to join the Commanders OL per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. He was an undrafted free agent who was signed by Philadelphia after the 2019 NFL draft. Herbig suffered a torn rotator cuff last August, and missed the 2024 season. He has started 30 games, and played in 61 over 5 seasons.
The Commanders are shuffling their offensive line after a January ACL tear for Sam Cosmi, and this month’s trade for LT Laremy Tunsil. They restructured the contract of RT Andrew Wylie and could move him inside to guard, or to backup tackle. Brandon Coleman was drafted to play LT, but he will likely be tried out at RT and guard to see his best fit. Herbig has played both guard spots, and will provide valuable depth if he doesn’t win a starting job. He was in line to be the Steelers starting center last year before the injury.
