Washington Commanders Roster Moves: Another offensive lineman signed as depth is tested

Washington needs more bodies at tackle

The Washington Commanders held their last public training camp practice yesterday, and they were noticeably thinner on the offensive line. Andrew Wylie has been dealing with “tightness” and has been limited for several days. Sam Cosmi missed his second practice while dealing with an illness and rookie LT Brandon Coleman was also missing yesterday. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury was asked about the offensive line, and mentioned health several times.

Offensive tackle Alex Akingbulu was carted off the field during practice on Sunday, and now he has been released with an injury designation. If he isn’t claimed on waivers he will revert to Washington’s injured reserve list. Tight end Armani Rogers was also released. He was a preseason favorite, but an Achilles injury last year cut his season short. Undrafted free agent TE Colson Yankoff has taken his spot on the preseason roster.

The Washington Commanders have been working out offensive linemen as they deal with injuries and other issues. They signed former Pittsburgh Steelers center/guard J.C. Hassenauer yesterday, and then added OT Alex Taylor today. Both players were signed to add to the team’s depth as they deal with several injuries. Second-year UDFA OL Mason Brooks was moved to tackle this week, ahead of 2023 4th round pick Braeden Daniels.

The Washington Commanders travel to New Jersey to have a joint practice with the New York Jets tomorrow. They will need healthy offensive linemen as rookie QB Jayden Daniels prepares for his first NFL preseason start. The Commanders visit the Jets at MetLife Stadium on Saturday for a noon game. Dan Quinn said that Brandon Coleman had earned the right to start in that game, but there haven’t been any updates on why he missed yesterday’s practice. Tomorrow’s joint practice should give us a better indication of who will be available this weekend.

The new group signed UDFA TE Colson Yankoff. He’s been working with some ST groups; at times has been with the first FG protection groups. Was there today as a wing opposite Ben Sinnott
