The Washington Commanders announced one roster move today. They have elevated DT Carl Davis for the third straight game. He has been active over former second round pick Phidarian Mathis, and that will likely be the situation again tomorrow. Davis is now out of practice squad elevations for the season, and the Commanders would need to sign him from the practice squad to have him on the active roster again.
The defensive line is expected to get some help next week with the return of former Pro Bowl DT Jonathan Allen. He has been on IR since tearing his pectoral muscle against the Ravens in October. Allen’s return could mean Phidarian Mathis joins other former high draft picks from the Ron Rivera regime, on the streets after not meeting the Adam Peters/Dan Quinn group’s standards.
Almost as important were the moves Washington didn’t make this week. The Commanders had Greg Joseph at kicker last week due to a foot injury to the previous game’s kicker, Zane Gonzalez. Joseph wasn’t elevated this week so Gonzalez is the man again. He last played against the Tennessee Titans, missing 46- and 52-yard FGs. He was 6-fof-6 on extra points

Washington announced two practice squad moves earlier in the week. They signed TE Tyree Jackson and placed WR/RB Kaz Allen on injured reserve with an ankle injury. TE Zach Ertz and S Jeremy Chinn suffered concussions vs the Saints and both were listed as questionable yesterday. Washington didn’t elevate Johnson, TE Cole Turner, or another DB which is a good sign that both veterans have been cleared from concussion protocol and could be active against the Philadelphia Eagles tomorrow.
