The Washington Commanders aren’t practicing today, but that doesn’t mean the team isn’t working. GM Adam Peters has reportedly added another wide receiver to the team’s 90-man roster.

Byron Pringle was signed by Washington last year after spending a season with the Chicago Bears. He started his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He rejoined his former Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy in Washington last season, but wasn’t re-signed after his contract expired in March.

Pringle was mostly used on special teams last season, playing 41% of the snaps. He also had 9 kick returns for 251 yards(27.9 ypr). Pringle started one game at WR, and was active for all 17 games. He had 14 receptions for 161 yards in a limited role in offense.

The Washington Commanders had 13 WRs on the roster before Pringle was signed. The team hasn’t made the deal official, and they will have to make a corresponding roster move. There haven’t been any reports of any injuries at WR during Washington’s six training camp practices, so Washington could just be churning the bottom of the roster, and adding a veteran with special teams experience.

Washington’s top two receivers are Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson. They signed Olamide Zaccheaus in free agency, and he looks like he’ll be on the 53-man roster when the regular season starts. After that there are a lot of young, unproven players (and Jamison Crowder) who will be fighting for the remaining 3-4 roster spots.
