Injury updates
The Washington Commanders returned home last week, hosting the Philadelphia Eagles for a 36-33 win. They’ve got one more home game before finishing the regular season in Dallas. This week was supposed to be another “homecoming” for former Redskins QB Kirk Cousins, but he’s been benched, and rookie Michael Penix Jr will be leading the Atlanta Falcons into Northwest Stadium.
Dan Quinn changed the team’s practice schedule around due to the Christmas holiday today. The team held a walkthrough yesterday, and now they’ve released an estimated injury report for today. Several players were injured during Sunday’s win over the Eagles, with the big name being CB Marshon Lattimore(hamstring). The Commanders traded for him on November 5th, and he finally debuted against his former team, the New Orleans Saints, last week and wasn’t targeted. Philly targeted him all game until he re-injured his left hamstring, and now we wait until tomorrow for an update.
WR Dyami Brown had a big catch on Sunday, but also suffered a hamstring injury of his own. Washington’s WR corps has been in flux the last few weeks with Noah Brown going on IR after suffering a kidney injury. The Commanders picked up K.J. Osborn off of waivers from the Patriots, but he’s been inactive the last two weeks. Olamide Zaccheaus and Jamison Crowder stepped up vs the Eagles with 2 TDs each.
RT Andrew Wylie suffered a groin injury on Sunday, and he was replaced by Cornelius Lucas for 10 snaps. TE Zach Ertz and A Jeremy Chinn both suffered concussions vs the Saints, and they both returned within a week to play against the Eagles. Ertz has been listed with a shoulder injury for the last two weeks.
Jonathan Allen returned to the practice field a week ago after the team opened his 21-day window to return from injured reserve. He was listed as limited all week, but looked good doing individual drills, and coaches have been optimistic about him returning to play on Sunday. This is only an estimation, but Allen is listed as “full” today, and looks to be on track to play vs the Falcons.
