Jayden Daniels gets two drives
The Washington Commanders visited the Miami Dolphins for their second preseason game. Jayden Daniels played the first two series, but didn’t lead the team on a touchdown drive this week. He finished the day 10 of 12 for 78 yards, and he had two rushes for another 13 yards.

Starting OL:
Possible leaning probably starting offensive line for opening day out there today with Wylie, Cosmi, Biadasz, Allegretti and Lucas today

Jayden Daniels —> Dyami Brown:
Daniels completes first pass of the night to Dyami Brown. Good quick cut for Dyami, gain on 8
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 17, 2024
Dyami with a second catch. First down picked up. And the fire alarm now going off in Dolphins press box
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 17, 2024
Third catch for Dyami Brown. Making his case to be WR2
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) August 17, 2024
Jayden Daniels —> Terry McLaurin:
Another 3rd down conversion – this time McLaurin and Terry shows some toughness to get extra YAC
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 17, 2024
Terry McLauren does such a good job of giving his QB a good target no matter how well he’s covered … Jayden is doing a good job of getting rid of the ball quickly
— Mitchell Tischler (@Mitch_Tischler) August 17, 2024
Third down conversions:
That’s two third-down conversions for Daniels. Love the way he’s handling the situation but also love the way Kingsbury is calling the game
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) August 17, 2024
Opening drive:
Excellent start for the Commanders offense.
Kingsbury has the ball coming out of Daniels’ hand fast. Up-tempo, even no-huddle. Quick game. All quick outs. Good accuracy and velocity with short, safe throws. Been on the money on five of six throws.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) August 17, 2024
On first drive Jayden Daniels went 5 of 7 for 46 yards. McLaurin had 2 catches for 27 yards, Dyami Brown 3 catches for 19 yards.

Kicker competition is still open:
The Commanders have a kicking issue.
Riley Patterson — the only kicker on the roster — has now missed both of his kicks this preseason. pic.twitter.com/Jh3EysKSqO
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) August 17, 2024
Riley Patterson shanked a 49-yard field goal by like four feet. Goodness.
He also shanked a 45-yarder in warmups.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 17, 2024
Starting defensive line:
Norell Pollard and Phidarian Mathis starting at DT in place of Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne.
Pollard and Mathis also started against the Jets.

Armstrong & KJ Henry at End with 1st team D

Frankie Luvu:
So far, on defense LB Frankie Luvu has every tackle.
— CWallSports (@cwallse) August 17, 2024
Mike Sainristil:
Sainristil with another tackle down the line of scrimmage. Did that last week vs Jets
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 17, 2024
Man Mike Sainristil plays like a vet. Has three tackles on this drive so far

False start:
2nd straight week with false start on presumed starting O Line. This time it’s Wylie, his first game action with Jayden so now is the time to learn
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 17, 2024
Brian Robinson:
Impressive run by Brian Robinson to start the drive. Showed patience and explosiveness
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) August 17, 2024
Commanders just ran the same play on back-to-back snaps to start their second drive. Brian Robinson got carries off right tackle out of the gun two times. Gained 11 yards both times.
Pulled LG Allegretti (made nice block both times) got a nice block from John Bates twice too.

Jayden Daniels run:
Jayden Daniels immediately turned to Dan Quinn on the sideline after running for 13 yards and not sliding. He knew. pic.twitter.com/g0unNTxMbo
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 18, 2024
Jayden Daniels takes first real contact of the preseason. Calls his own number to the outside, good run but he didnt get out of bounds or slide. Gain of 13
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 17, 2024
John Bates:
Say what you want about John Bates but a blocking TE is a must. Showing that skillset is key. Will the Commanders keep 3 TEs or 4?
— CWallSports (@cwallse) August 17, 2024
Daniels hits John Bates for 1st down but if that throw is a bit better that could have been big gainer
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 17, 2024
Spreading the ball around:
Commanders offense spreading the ball around at WR to see who will stamp their spot at WR #2
— CWallSports (@cwallse) August 17, 2024
Another Andrew Wylie penalty:
3rd & 2 and get the conversion but coming back after hold on Wylie. His 2nd penalty of the drive
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 17, 2024
2nd Quarter
Riley Patterson FG:
Riley’s kick is good from 46 yards. Commanders are on the board, 7-3, after a nine-play, 52-yard drive

Jayden Daniels day:
Every Jayden Daniels Throw and Run vs the Dolphins
10/12 for 78 yards#raisehail pic.twitter.com/2Y9K2Xy1r1— awthentik (@awthentik) August 18, 2024
If that is Daniels’ last play of the night (it probably is), it was another all-around impressive performance from the rookie. 10-of-12 for 78 yards and two rushes for 13 yards
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) August 17, 2024
Tyler Owens:
Tyler Owens shoved his man into the returner. Goodness.
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 17, 2024
Missed this the first time, but the coaches will like this: Tyler Owens knocking the gunner off his feet on the last punt return. Castro-Fields rode him out of bounds first; when he tried to return Owens de-cleated him.
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 18, 2024
Jeff Driskel enters the game:
Jeff Driskel is now in at QB

Quan Martin:
Quan Martin flying around making tackles near LOS
Shows good range as the post safety
Him & Mike Sainristill are the kind of DB’s this group is looking for
Play fast, ball skills, speed
— Lynnell Willingham (@Nell_BTP) August 17, 2024
Riley Patterson’s second missed FG:
Patterson missed right. He’s now missed right and left. Any golfer knows that a 2 way miss is a biggggg problem
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 17, 2024
Jamin Davis:
Jamin Davis sighting.
Davis batted a pass on a clean rush into a booting QB. Timed his leap well and knocked the ball down. Athletic play in space.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) August 17, 2024
No pressure:
Sitting in Cover 2, you must get pressure
Commanders aren’t
— Lynnell Willingham (@Nell_BTP) August 17, 2024
Andre Jones:

Luke McCaffrey:

— Washington Commanders (@Commanders) August 18, 2024
Big time catch from Luke McCaffrey to open up this drive. Went up there and got it for a 21-yard gain
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) August 18, 2024
Jalen Harris:
Really liked that rep by Jalen Harris. Sealed off the run to force it inside and made the tackle
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) August 18, 2024
Kazmeir Allen:
Kaz Allen just got ROCKED on a punt return. I get he wants to prove to coaches that 1) he can catch 2) he’s tough but you got to fair catch that.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 18, 2024
Running back competition:
McNichols and Wiley getting carries before Chris Rodriguez. Wiley looks the better so far, had the TD score last week too. 3rd RB still seems very nebulous

Trent Scott:
