Injury updates
The Washington Commanders were back on the field for their second day of practice as they prepare to host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in a pivotal NFC East matchup. Washington is dealing with an illness that has now affected a third player. Tyler Biadasz missed Sunday’s game against the Saints after being ruled out on gameday. He’s back at practice but Sam Cosmi has missed the last two practices, and now John Bates was out today. Cosmi is reportedly in the building, just not able to participate yet.
Two players suffered concussions during the win over the Saints, and both of them were on the field today in non-contact jerseys. Jeremy Chinn has been a limited participant the last two days, doing individual drills on the side fields. Zach Ertz had a vet rest day yesterday, but returned to the field today. Both players remain in the NFL’s concussion protocol, but could be ready to play on Sunday.
Jonathan Allen returned to the practice field yesterday, after the team opened his 21-day window to return from injured reserve. He was doing drills with the team, and continues to be limited. DC Joe Whitt Jr. said he looked forward to him returning to the team in the “near future”, but it’s not clear if a return on Sunday is in their plans.
Four other players were limited today. Michael Deiter started in place of Tyler Biadasz and now he’s dealing with an ankle injury. Clelin Ferrell continues to deal with the knee injury that has been affecting him since training camp. Luke McCaffrey is dealing with a shoulder injury. Daron Payne was on the injury report last Friday, but started. He’s been limited all week with the same injury.
Congratulations to kickers Zane Gonzalez and Greg Joseph who both became fathers yesterday. Both kickers missed yesterday’s practice. Gonzalez was back at practice today. Joseph is on the practice squad, and doesn’t appear on the team’s injury report.
