Injury updates
The Washington Commanders are on a seven-game winning streak, and they’re latest win came on the road against the Detroit Lions in the divisional round of the playoffs. This was a big upset of the NFC’s No. 1 seed. The team is now 14-5 on the season, and preparing for a road trip against the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC title. This is Washington’s first NFC Championship game since 1992 when the defeated the Lions 41-10 on the way to their third Super Bowl victory.
Washington held a walkthrough in the practice bubble today, and they gave veteran rest days to Zach Ertz, Clelin Ferrell, and Dante Fowler Jr. Ferrell was listed with his weekly knee injury, and Ertz has been listed with a rib injury for the last few weeks. Sam Cosmi is listed on the injury report due to his torn ACL from the Lions game. He’ll be placed on IR at some point this week.
Daron Payne suffered a thumb dislocation vs the Buccaneers, but was able to play vs the Lions on Sunday. He’s also listed with a new knee injury, and he didn’t practice. Bobby Wagner reportedly suffered a high-ankle sprain vs the Bucs, and barely practiced last week. He played 100% of the snaps vs the Lions, and didn’t participate in the team’s first practice for Eagles week.
Two new injuries popped up today that lead to limited statuses for rookie DE Javontae Jean-Baptiste(shoulder) and veteran WR Olamide Zaccheaus(hip). Seven other players are on the injury report, but were full participants in today’s light practice. Tyler Biadasz is back on the report with an ankle injury. He missed the season finale against the Cowboys with an ankle injury. Jeremy McNichols is on the injury report for the first time this season with a hand injury. The other five players are all dealing with lingering injuries.
