Washington endured some bad officiating

December 30, 2021 by Redskins Wire

Pro Football Talk hosts Mike Florio and Chris Simms continued their weekly evaluating and critiquing of the bad NFL officiating.

Watching Sunday night’s game was not only embarrassing as Dallas was romping Washington, but a few plays it was so frustrating to see officials not make the correct calls.

No, I am not saying Washington lost because of bad officiating. Come on, Washington lost by 42 points.

Remember Sunday night when Dallas center Tyler Biadasz was down field what looked like perhaps ten yards beyond the line of scrimmage on a Dak Prescott pass? Even when the official was shown by Washington defenders that Biadasz was ten yards down the field, the official on camera conveniently ignored them ( and his own glaring lapse of judgment).

Not that it matters but how can the ref miss #Cowboys center Tyler Biadasz eight yards downfield on this pass? How can NBC miss showing the replay? Again, #WFT and Dan’s benches are still going to lose by 20. #WASvsDAL pic.twitter.com/KPYACNOzdd

Both Florio and Simms talked of how ridiculous it was that no penalty on Dallas was called.

Also reviewed by Florio and Simms was the call against Washington safety Bobby McCain as McCain was flagged for illegally making contact to the head of a Dallas tight end Dalton Schultz.

Bobby McCain—who just put the hit stick on Dalton Schultz—catching his own penalty flag was pretty cold. Being down 42–7 at half is pretty cold too. pic.twitter.com/aD4ZPCIEhL

What surprised me most Sunday night was when the replay was shown, NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth acted like it was definitely a penalty by McCain and thus the right call. I sat their in disbelief asking, “Why is that a penalty when McCain hit Schultz not in the head but in the upper chest to shoulder region?”

I am curious why Florio and Simms did not spend anytime on the play where Taylor Heinicke was clearly struck with the crown of the helmet directly in the sternum and no call was made. Why is it the NFL officials have made so many bad calls penalizing defensive players for very slight contact on quarterbacks? Yet when Heinicke was clearly struck with the crown of the helmet, no call was made?

The video is set to begin where Florio and Simms discuss the officiating miscues and transgressions during the Washington game at Dallas in week 16.
